What is banquet of chestnuts?

The Banquet of Chestnuts was a feast held in the Papal Palace in Rome on October 30, 1501, hosted by the infamous Borgia family. The banquet was organized by Pope Alexander VI's son, Cesare Borgia, as a celebration of his appointment as Cardinal.

The banquet is notorious for its scandalous and debauched nature, with reports of drunkenness, orgies, and wild behavior among the guests. According to historical accounts, there were fifty naked prostitutes present at the feast who engaged in sexual acts with the guests, including members of the clergy.

The Banquet of Chestnuts is now considered one of the most infamous events of the Renaissance, and is often cited as an example of the corruption and debauchery of the Borgia family and the papacy at the time. The scandal surrounding the banquet further tarnished the already controversial reputation of the Borgias in history.
